Darcy and Elisabeth are the most crucial characters in the story, but they are not the only characters who impact the meaning of the book. Mr. Bennet, for example, is a very important character not only because he is one of the few people whose opinion Elisabeth values and respects, but he also adds some humor to the story. His ability to subtly say something sensible yet funny makes him a very interesting character. The story can start to get boring and overwhelming, but Mr. Bennet always helps add comic relief to the situations. His concise yet humorous comments help add meaning to the story. However, it is not always joking; he is always serious at times and is the only one who truly defends Elisabeth when she does not want to marry Mr. Collins. He tells her that "I will never see you again if" you marry Mr. Collins. By saying this, he ends the argument and prevents Elisabeth from living a miserable life with Mr. Collins. He is probably the only person who has a strong influence on Elisabeth and is one of the few people Elisabeth truly trusts. He is the first person Elisabeth tells that she likes Mr. Darcy.
