Harry S. TrumanHarry S. Truman was born on May 8, 1884 on the farmlands of Lamar, Missouri. He was given the middle name S because both of his grandfather's names began with the letter S. In 1890, the Truman family moved to Independence, Missouri, where Harry went to school and was a very intelligent student. (In general, paragraphs should be 4-5 sentences. Sometimes, shorter lengths are fine.) Truman was always close to his mother, whom he called "Mom," and went to her for everything. Even when Harry became president, his mother was the first person he consulted when making important decisions. In his early years Harry had to wear thick glasses because his eyesight was poor. As Harry grew up, he wanted to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, but his poor eyesight prevented him from being accepted. Truman's family did not have much money, forcing him to not attend college, so after graduating from high school in 1901 he worked as a bank clerk along with other jobs. Five years after graduating from high school, he spent more than a decade working with his father on the family's 600-acre farm near Grandview, Missouri. While working on the family farm, Truman served in the Missouri National Guard. In 1917, when America entered World War I, Truman was in his early thirties and re-enlisted in the National Guard and was sent to France. In 1919, upon returning from the war, Truman married Elizabeth “Bess” Wallace, his childhood friend. The Trumans had a daughter, Mary. Mary grew up to be a singer and writer of many novels. (mention the novels if you can) In 1922, Truman, with the support of Kansas City political boss Thomas Pendergast, was elected district judge in Jackson County, Missouri. In 1926, Harry wo... middle of paper... in the wrong direction. He ordered the eagle's head to be sewn just right.• Harry's favorite food was steak.• In France he was captain of Battery D.• Favorite saying is “If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. ”• Read the Bible three times. • His first grade teacher was Myra Ewing, • He gave most of his speeches on the radio. Not many people think about past presidents unless their name is mentioned in everyday life, such as George Washington for being our first President, or Abraham Lincoln for freeing the slaves. If you really think about it, Harry Truman did something that changed the world! He put the United States on the right path and made Japan surrender, which not many people in the world could do. He did exactly what every other president has done in the past. I think people should recognize that as much as any other president.
