The recession caused one in eight older Millennials to move back home to their parents” (3). It's not because they want it, but because it's their only option. According to Richard Fry, Senior Research Associate at Pews Research Center, in 2012 the total number of older Millennials living at home reached a record 21 million. There are several factors that push them to return to their parents, such as the decline in employment rate and increase in college tuition. Fry also states that “unemployed Millennials were more likely to live with their guardians, (45%) than employed Millennials (29%)” (A Rising Share of Young Adults). Helicopter parents also influence Millennials to be addicted. According to Kathryn Tyler, a Generation It gives parents control of their decisions. Millennials are addicted because Helicopter parents don't let them learn from their mistakes. Robert Epstein, a scholar at the University of California at San Diego, states that “the most important task of parents is to help young people become independent and autonomous. When we infantilize our little ones, we stifle their development.” When parents “groom” their children and do not allow them to use critical thinking, they cannot support themselves. Overparenting influences children's decisions later in life. They become immature and unable to make important decisions such as looking for a spouse or deciding to get married. According to Kay S. Hymowitz, nearly seven in ten 25-year-olds were married in 1970; within 200......half paper......ns. The diversity of their generation allows them to make decisions for the minority. People need to understand who the Millennial generation is, because they will soon make up the majority of society.
