Was World War II a good war for America? One of the most important wars ever fought was World War II. In between, the Nazis had control of much of Europe, the Soviet Union was causing more deaths than any other country, and Japan had conquered parts of China. The United States of America found itself in the midst of all this. They had to deal with the Nazis and decide when to go to war, in the meantime Japan was breathing down their neck with attacks. What was America supposed to do? What would happen to America, and would this be a “good war” for them? I believe World War II was a "good war" for America because it made them a superior power like they are today. No greater direct cause than the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and other US territories can be found for America's entry into World War II. , and all the causes appear to be valid and just. The effects of this war on both the United States and the world have proven far-reaching, touching all aspects of life, including attitudes, society, culture, and security. At the beginning of World War II, the United States remained neutral as long as possible, as it did during World War I. It soon became obvious to the United States that the war machines of Germany and Japan posed a threat to the United States. After the defeat of France and other European nations, Great Britain began to ask the United States for assistance. American resistance eventually made them a major power, but that is not why they resisted the war. The need to assist Britain could be interpreted as America's entry into the war, and for good reason. Germany was militarily expanding. At that point Germany had not yet attacked the USSR and seemed capable of defeating England and aiming for the Americas. America would soon have the opportunity to support Great Britain in the war and become a powerful nation. America knew then that it wouldn't be easy, but they didn't know that this would turn into a “good war” for them. After Germany attacked the USSR, the United States extended the Lend-Lease agreement to the Soviets. This showed that America was committed to the Allied cause because the United States was at odds with the USSR, and was taking its side anyway. There was clear justification for helping the Soviets because they were being attacked by an unprovoked enemy. &nb...... middle of paper....... The USSR, never a confident nation, felt more threatened than ever. Germany's attack showed them that they would never be safe from external aggression. Each attack on Russia became stronger and stronger, and many US actions during the war demonstrated that America could not be trusted. All this led to the great Cold War between East and West, which dominated world politics and threatened world peace for the next 50 years. America's slow entry into the war showed restraint. The United States could hardly have entered earlier due to the state of its military. The year before his official entry into World War II was dedicated to the construction of his military machine. Its effect clearly reached the lives of every American and changed the world forever. Was World War II a “good war” for America? Evidence has shown that World War II was perhaps the “best” thing that ever happened to them. The opportunity to help an ally and turn the war around, and to prove how powerful they were by basically destroying a pretty strong country beyond..
