Hemingway: Ernest Hemingway was one of the best American authors. He started by writing many articles and then even novels about some of his life experiences. Hemingway had a great influence on American society. Although Hemingway had many misfortunes in his life, he was a great writer. Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 to Clarence and Grace Hemingway in Oak Park, Illinois. He had five brothers; Marcelline, Ursula, Madelaine, Carol and Leicester. During his lifetime, Hemingway wrote over four hundred articles for various newspapers, as well as completing ten novels, four nonfiction books, over one hundred short stories, one play, and ninety poems. While in high school, Hemingway began writing for his school newspaper, The Trapeze. He published his first article, a review of a Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert, on January 20, 1916. From there, Hemingway's articles were published in his school newspaper, and this led to Hemingway earning his first job. Hemingway's Uncle Tyler was an inspiration. to Hemingway as a teenager. He helped Hemingway get a job as a cub reporter for The Kansas City Star after reading his nephew's first story, in which he appeared as the main character. During his time at this company, Hemingway learned his writing style. After leaving the Kansas City Star, Hemingway applied to serve the nation during World War II. He was rejected because he had poor eyesight, and instead of giving up, Hemingway joined the Italian army as an ambulance driver. His duties included recovering the dead and/or wounded from the battlefield. This put Hemingway in danger, as he sometimes had to cross the front line. In his short story, Soldiers Home, he highlights the mistreatment of soldiers when they return home from war. This showed people how many people who return home from war feel and that they should be respected and honored for their service. When Hemingway returned from Europe, he enjoyed a period of fame from the early 1930s to the mid-1940s. People reacted positively to his works and his popularity grew. He was also popular in many countries he visited in Europe, such as Spain, Italy, France and others. All in all, Hemingway had a very successful career, filled with many ups and downs. Hemingway is believed to be one of the best authors in American history and deserved the positive criticism he received. Although Hemingway had many misfortunes in his life, he was a great writer.
