Lyndon Baines Johnson often known as LBJ. He was the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969. A position he assumed after serving as the 37th Vice President of the United States. He is one of only four people to have served in all four U.S. federal elected offices: Representative, Senator, Vice President, and President. Johnson, a Texas Democrat, served as a U.S. representative from 1937 to 1949 and as a senator from 1949 to 1961, including six years as majority leader of the U.S. Senate. Born in Stonewall, Texas, on August 27, 1908, Lyndon Baines Johnson's family had settled in Texas before the Civil War. His parents, Samuel Ealy Johnson)Jr., and Rebekah BainesJohnson, had three daughters and two sons. Lyndon was the oldest, born August 27, 1908. The nearby town of Johnson City is named for the Johnson family, known for farming and ranching. Lyndon's father was a rancher and part-time politician, but he did not inherit the family's talent for ranching and found himself in financial difficulty, losing the family farm when Lyndon was still a teenager.....
