Nowadays you can't live a day without accessing social networking sites and you can't blame them because social networking has become an important part of our life, especially through the existence of gadgets like smartphones, which help us access apps like; Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and many more. I remember the time when Whatsapp went down for an hour; I felt like my whole world stopped and I was getting all these messages from friends with all kinds of suggestions. Why did it go down? And how we can't live without it. Panic spread everywhere, from Twitter to Facebook. It felt like a catastrophic event had occurred even though there hadn't been one. It is obvious that social networks affect the psychological state of a person, since every minute someone is connected. Therefore, they become addicted to websites after being connected for a while and they distance them from the rest of the world as they become increasingly unaware of the real world around them. We students are starting to procrastinate our work and waste our time on networking, instead of on school work and other things we should be focusing on. The problem of cyberbullying is also rapidly increasing in the last two years due to the popularity of social networks. Children at the tender age of four even have a Facebook profile which makes them easy prey for bullies and psychopaths such as pedophiles. I sincerely believe that social networks make people act differently. Most of the time they pretend to be someone they are not through writing. A good example is a teenage boy, who posted “my parents didn't give me Christmas presents” on his Facebook profile, to attract the sympathy of friends; but he forgets…half of the paper…pictures and messages instead of enjoying his dinner. Furthermore, to add insult to (self-inflicted) injury, a few days later, during a work phone call, the other person – who never crossed his threshold – told him how much he "loved" the lamps hanging above Mr. Table from Bilton kitchen. In conclusion, social networks are simply destroying social life. Children no longer play outside. Family chats are becoming a thing of the past as most parents now regularly communicate with their children through social networking sites. You would see normally healthy, well-adjusted and intelligent people losing not only their judgment but also their marbles when faced with the visibility opportunities offered by Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp to name a few and that's why I'd like to take a spin on social media networking to improve life in the 21st century.
