When you write the story of life, don't let anyone else hold the pen, otherwise strange things will happen. Does man control his own destiny? In William Shakespeare's Macbeth, the character Macbeth listens to three witches as they foreshadow his life. First they tell him that he will become King of Scotland, and this is where the immorality begins. One murder leads to another and he finds himself in a web of paranoid chaos. He keeps returning to the witches to hear their prophecies about how his life will turn out. William Shakespeare makes the witches' roles imperative because they create the plot and spur Macbeth's actions, all while ruining his life. The witches can predict the future and influence Macbeth, but they cannot control his destiny. Macbeth's death may have been planned by the witches, but it was his free will that led him to evil. Macbeth would never have seriously thought about killing Duncan without the witches. The witches are tasked with putting the idea and thought into Macbeth's mind. As the brave leader of the king's army, Macbeth's main goal should be to serve and receive his reward in heaven. After the encounter with the witches this is no longer the case. Ambition is what drives Macbeth, and he only needs the hint of what could be his to go get it. The sisters were amused to see Macbeth's downfall due to his selfish actions. Without the witches, his desire to become king would not have been great enough for him to commit murder; witches are his evil side. The strange sisters play the role of catalyst in the story as they change the plot with their foresights. Without the witches, the story would obviously lose its weirdness, but it would collapse and the conflict would fade away. “I… mid-paper… will consider killing Duncan without the witch investigation. He even blames the witches for his actions and uses them to justify his desire for the throne (Cavolowsky Internet). Justification is anything that Macbeth, or someone better said, is doing something unjust and wrong. After Macbeth has the justification clear in his head, he is ready to go in search of the King of Scotland. Macbeth was not virtuous in controlling his own destiny. Ultimately he let the witches dissuade him from his righteousness and the idea he had that his worthy pursuits would make him king one day. The witches of doom were instrumental in Macbeth starting chaos within himself and falling to his destiny. Without the witches in the play, foreshadowing and suspense would be lost: Macbeth would eventually earn himself the king of Scotland in the future with his courage and leadership..
