For my article I chose to study Buffardi and Campbell's study on narcissism and the correlation the two have with each other. Their study was published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and was titled “Narcissism and Social Networking Websites.”, written by Laura E. Buffardi and W. Keith Campbell. In the study, Buffardi and Campbell introduce research examining how narcissism is externalized on a social networking website such as Facebook (1303). Facebook, the social networking site used in this study, offers people the opportunity to create an online persona through their personal Web page. This user-created persona is an area where elements such as personal images and interests are incorporated, as well as an opportunity to reflect one's life for the world to see. Buffardi and Campbell state that a person's Web page contains information about themselves, embedded links to other members' pages, and the added ability to interact with other members from around the world (1303). The reason Facebook was chosen was its popularity among the masses and the fact that structurally it was the most consistent across the board. The study conducted by Laura E. Buffardi and W. Keith Campbell was based on a total number of 129 undergraduate students who gave permission to save their Facebook pages for use in this research and another 128 undergraduate students who served as evaluators or observers in this investigation (1306). Participants were then asked to view their Facebook profile page and the information was also saved by the experimenter. Participants were then also asked to view the web page linked to the “View My Photos” profile page. The link displays two... halves of the paper... a quarter. The human condition cannot be based on these things, assuming that I believe that in some sense this experiment has opened up a way for discussion by possibly examining other characteristics that could help diagnose something like narcissism or other mental conditions. What I find most interesting about this experiment is above all the fact that I criticize it because, regardless of what Buffardi and Campbell's results "might" have demonstrated, I am still somewhat biased based on my personal beliefs. So ultimately the question I ask is: Would I be a narcissist if I didn't agree with the results or would I really be one if I agreed with them. Works Cited Laura E. Buffardi and W.
