Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that allows a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; courage. Courage plays a very important role in the plot of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. There are many different acts of courage in the novel, but the bravest act comes from a character who is arguably braver than Superman, Atticus Finch. Atticus literally defines courage. He fights for justice, even when he knows there is no chance of winning. Scout Finch, Atticus' son, also shows signs of courage throughout the novel. Above all, he shows true courage in terrible situations. One character who shows signs of courage that we don't notice until the end of the novel is Mrs. Dubose, who is very mean to the boys because of a battle she is fighting within herself. it would be easy to go with the flow and say no and not take the case to defend Tom Robinson, who was innocent. Atticus shows extraordinary courage in standing up for what he knows is right. He fights to the end...
