Two Rivers, WisconsinIf one were to travel 36 miles southeast of Green Bay, one would come across a small town known as Two Rivers. Two rivers are located on the shore of Lake Michigan. Two Rivers is surrounded on three sides by majestic Lake Michigan. Not far from Two Rivers is its sister city Manitowoc. French Canadians and Chippewa Indians founded Two Rivers. The Chippewa Indians called the area Neshotah which means "crossing of 2 rivers", as the twin rivers join before entering Lake Michigan. The Chippewa Indians also gave their names to the Twin Rivers. The West River is known as “Neshoto” meaning west, while the East River is “Mishicot” meaning east. Two Rivers is obviously named after these twin rivers. The rivers themselves are almost geographically the same. The rivers split at the capital city, which is located in the center of the city, and then rejoin just before reaching Lake Michigan. There are more than seven miles of clean, wide white sand beaches along the edges of the city for both city people and tourists to enjoy. Swimming, windsurfing, coming to the beach or just taking a break and relaxing in the sun are just some of the things you can enjoy at Two Rivers. Not to mention one of the greatest activities to enjoy is fishing. Fishing charters are a major tourist attraction, and the Kiwanis Fishing Derby attracts anglers from all over the Midwest. You can fish inshore or offshore in almost all four seasons. Not only are the Twin Rivers a good fishing resource, but they are also a major and important water resource. The flow of the rivers is usually calm and slow, which could be said to match the lifestyle of Two Rivers. Two Rivers is a town where the pace of life never gets slower. Its slow-paced atmosphere and friendly citizens make you feel like you're in the South. Trees line the quiet streets of this all-American city. In the city center there are lovely old buildings framing Central Park. Young and old gather here for parties or just to sit and talk. Band concerts are also held regularly in Central Park. Tourists shop in all the well-kept shops and are often greeted with a friendly smile. Two Rivers is a town where everyone knows your name.
