IntroductionMost foreign students are concerned about the difficulty of writing essays in English. Therefore, foreign students face a huge challenge in the way of learning academic writing, which always find many problems related to academic writing, such as lack of vocabulary, insufficiency of grammar and disorganization of paragraphs. According to Harris (2010), there are many differences between non-native students and home students in grammar and essay structure. Others argue that writing styles and culture of conventions are the main problems (Sondek, 2008, cited in Linn, 2009). This essay will suggest that insufficiency of grammar, limited range of vocabulary and conventional writing, and different writing styles are the most significant differences between foreign and domestic students. Language Problem There has been a notable study that foreign students usually have problems with academic writing in English due to lack of vocabulary and grammar. Holopainen (1997, p.119 cited in Harris, 2010 p.67) argues that "grammatical and lexical inappropriateness" is usually the cause of failures in essay writing among foreign students. Harris (2010, p 67) argues that there is a difference between British and foreign students, as British students rarely commit grammatical inaccuracies compared to foreign students who always reverse the form of sentence order. In contrast, Linn (White (2001) cited in Linn 2009, p2) argues that foreign students are not successful in academic writing because they have weaknesses in grammar. The use of linguistic metaphors in academic writing, according to Harris (2010), is a clear difference between British students and students of Romance/Russian and Oriental languages...... half of the paper...... ular, low levels of grammar and content of the text. The reason for the difficulty in academic writing among foreign students, who are not familiar with the style of English writers, the different culture and the new environment of UK universities. Therefore, foreign students often do not reach the level of expectation of British academic readers. In both the articles on Linn (2009) and Harris (2010) there are limitations that do not include referencing style, plagiarism and limited number of students, and excluding immigrant students. Recommendation to foreign students wishing to study in the UK: They should learn more about the principles of academic writing, for example: linking words, number of paragraphs, metaphorical use, linear structure and deductive style. For this reason, governments and the community must work together to prepare students for future academic studies.
