Topic > Pain Management in the Incoming Nurse - 1211

During this time, it is important for a departing nurse to communicate to the incoming nurse that if an operative exam is scheduled for the patient or if there are any special instructions to impart should be aware. For example, if the patient is to be NPO (nothing by mouth), the outgoing nurse should inform the incoming nurse, so that she can ensure that other staff involved in the care are also aware. More importantly, if the patient is scheduled to undergo any type of surgery, the outgoing nurse should also inform the incoming nurse where the patient belongs and whether there is anything of value that needs to be handed over.
