In 1894, a very creative man named Milton Hershey decided to produce sweet chocolate as a coating for his candies. Today, the Hershey Company is the leading North American manufacturer of chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery and food products. Hershey was born on September 13, 1857 on a farm near the village of Derry Church in central Pennsylvania. Hershey unfortunately grew up without a formal education. At first, Hershey was apprenticed to a printer, and soon after Milton was apprenticed, once again, to a candy maker in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was only then that candy making became his greatest passion and little did he know it would become a huge success. When Milton was only eighteen (1876) he opened his own candy shop in Philadelphia. However, his shop was closed after six years. Milton moved to Denver, Colorado, once there he worked with a caramel manufacturer and learned the art of caramel making. It all started way back in 1893, Milton Hershey was thirty-five years old and was looking for a way to get back into the world of work. chocolate industry after his candy store closed after six years in business. Milton Hershey was at the Chicago International Exposition and little did he know that what he would find there would change the chocolate industry as we know it. While there, he discovered and purchased a German chocolate-making machine and, soon after purchasing it, began producing chocolate-covered candies. At first the company "produced baking chocolate, cocoa and sweet chocolate couvertures for the parent company's candies." But, once Hershey hired William Murrie, things changed. He began selling the excess product to other confectioners, turning the Hershey Chocolate Company into... middle of paper... honey or flower nectar, but it wasn't used very often. Chocolate alone did not satisfy the taste of foreigners, but once mixed with a little honey or brown sugar, it quickly became popular. But before it was a treat, it was a drink, produced and consumed by the cultures of Mexico and Central America. It consisted of a mixture of ground cocoa beans with various seasonings, which created a frothy, spicy drink. It's clear that chocolate, with or without sugar, has been enjoyed since the beginning of its existence with Hershey's at the top of it all. , constantly introducing new products and “exploiting growth opportunities”. Hershey products are loved around the world and "with approximately 14,000 employees and net sales in excess of $6.6 billion, The Hershey Company remains true to the vision and values of the man who started it all so many years ago"..”
