Topic > The Exceptional Friendship in the Movie Rush Hour

“If you're half Chinese, I'm half black. I'm your brother and I fly. Is that okay with you, Snoopy? It's great, right?" (IMDB, 2007) Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) uses these words in a scene during Rush Hour 3 to describe his friendship with Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker). The dynamic duo from the Rush Hour franchise have been together since 1998, and their fictional friendship has become a friendship to rival. The exceptional friendship that Lee and Carter share stems from their casual agreement in the first Rush Hour film and their ability to use the experience of risking their lives for others to form a close bond. The settings of the Rush Hour trilogy are major components of why Lee and Carter were able to form the friendship that is shown in these films. Being set in 3 different countries allows the main characters to rely on each other when in their home environments. For example, Chief Inspector Lee is from Hong Kong while Detective Carter is from Los Angeles and neither has traveled to their friend's respective country. You can explore what makes Inspector Lee and Detective Carter best friends through their different cultures, world travels, and what made this $845 million-plus trilogy (Numbers, 2010) a success. Rush hour begins in Hong Kong shortly after British releases Hong Kong to China. Inspector Lee is involved in a smuggling operation that will prevent the export of Chinese manufactured goods to several countries. Inspector Lee works under the impression that he can live up to the name of his slain father, who was murdered in the line of duty, as discovered in Rush Hour 2. His reluctance to give up, whatever the consequences.. . half of the card......developed in the Rush Hour series to exist. Describing each other as “another mother's brother” (IMDB, 2007) reveals how close two individuals can become after continually caring for each other. The friendship between Lee and Carter can be appreciated by everyone, especially those who are in the same cultural situation. The Rush Hour series proves that friendships can and do exist at all levels, from complete strangers to people who have known each other for years. Works Cited IMDB. (2007, January 1).
