What is as dangerous if not more than murder and suicide? A car accident is. Being in the seat of a vehicle puts the driver's life in danger the moment he or she is in the seat of a vehicle. Adam Ford explains that driving licenses were first issued in 1900 and conditions have changed substantially: there are more powerful cars and there are more of them (Ford). With this concept Ford explains why cars are more dangerous on the road; However, the types of cars that exist nowadays are not the only reason why the road is more dangerous. John Pearson states that road accidents are the leading cause of death between three and thirty-five year olds worldwide (Pearson). It is mainly motorists who cause these road accidents. Cell phone use in the United States is a major contributor to car accidents, because habits shaped by cell phone use, such as texting, generate danger. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2009 more than 500,000 people were injured and 5,500 were killed by distracted driving (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The road has progressively become a dangerous place with an increase in distracted driving. Furthermore, alcohol abuse increases the danger while in the car. Ralph Hingson, a Sc.D., says that of all alcohol-related crashes in 2002, 4 percent resulted in death and 42 percent resulted in injury. Hingson also states, unlike crashes that did not involve alcohol, 0.6% resulted in deaths and 31% resulted in injuries (Hingson). Deaths and injuries have increased so much that they cannot be taken lightly. Furthermore, age is also a factor that explains the increase in car accidents in the last decade. Young drivers are the main users of mobile phones, which means that they send messages...... in the middle of a sheet of paper ...... with age their vision decreases and other drivers would also have l opportunity to find out if they need glasses or contact lenses. Once an individual receives their license, they are certified to drive for life until they are caught drinking and driving.
