Over 85% of Baby Boomers and Generation Y employees say having flexible work options is important to them (Hewlett, Sherbin & Sumberg, 2009, pp.73 ). “Similar percentages (87% and 83% respectively) say work-life balance is important to them, so it's no surprise that about two-thirds of both groups also want remote work opportunities” (Hewlett, Sherbin & Sumberg, 2009, pp.73). Generation Y employees “want to be able to work from home, work part-time, or take leave to raise children or pursue other interests” (Trends, 2009, pp. 19). With the technological growth that has occurred in recent decades, there is little stopping employees from working from different locations outside of the office. The option to do so is very powerful and motivates employees to put even more effort into their work (Hewlett, Sherbin & Sumberg, 2009, pp.73). Some companies that have implemented policies to allow flexible working include Citigroup and Best Buy. Citigroup's Alternative Work Solutions program is a trust-built program that allows employees to work where and how they want (Hewlett, Sherbin & Sumberg, 2009, pp.75).
