Women tend to feel more comfortable in hospitals where everything is available if something goes wrong. To keep women in a lower status, men try to scare them into believing that something will go wrong and risk their lives and that of their unborn child by not going to the hospital. Women don't believe they can do something on their own, with the help of another woman, because men say things they don't actually know much about. In addition to pregnancy and childbirth, infertility has also been widely medicalized. If a woman is unable to have a child, there is said to be something wrong with her body that prevents this. Society will even go so far as to say that “those who do not have children are stigmatized as selfish and indifferent” (Becker & Nachtigall, 1994). Even though times have changed and women have received more rights, it is still ingrained in society that women can have children and raise them, so a woman who goes against this is considered
