Researchers at the Brigham and Harvard Medical School in Boston have found that lack of sleep can lead to breast cancer. Melatonin and hormones are produced by our body to promote continuous sleep. However, when melatonin levels decrease, our body releases more estrogen, which poses a risk of breast cancer. Furthermore, the researcher also found that long-term lack of sleep appears to be associated with increased heart rate; it means blood pressure rises and levels of certain chemicals are higher, which could be linked to inflammation, which can put a strain on our heart. The United States is the country with a high percentage of people who suffer from lack of sleep, 8 out of 10 people suffer from lack of sleep due to stress, consuming alcohol or caffeine in the afternoon, exercising before going to sleep and doing work or other strenuous activities before going to bed can cause awakenings
