In our daily routine we pass by thousands of different propaganda and journalism. They can be found everywhere from buses, to television and even in buildings. Telling whether something is propaganda or journalism is quite simple because they have notable differences. As a reader, you can tell if the article is propaganda if you feel like you've been told to believe a certain way. Propaganda seeks to convince its readers to agree with the Author's views. Propaganda is simply a biased point of view. Journalism is the presentation of news in an impartial manner. Explain a situation or idea by presenting the facts and leaving the reader to draw their own conclusions. In the article The Insurgents Tale, the author wrote about the life of a jihadist. He explains the role a veteran infantry soldier played in the jihad and why he questions his actions and reasons for continuing to fight. The author tells the story of soldier Khalid and the suffering he had to go through to fight for his personal beliefs. The article is journalism because, although it contains some sympathetic opinions towards Khalid, the author does not impose his opinion on the reader, leaving it up to the reader to express his own judgement. In the article The Case for Calling them Nitwits, it's exactly the opposite. From the beginning of the article the author creates a negative view towards terrorists by calling them "crazy and perverted". While the author explains why he portrays them that way, he doesn't leave them the chance to be considered anything other than foolish and perverted. The author continues to explain why terrorists are bad, without at any point explaining their point of view, creating a distorted view. By...... middle of paper ...... led to believe that terrorists are bad and immoral without listening to their side of the story, which makes this article Propaganda.Works CitedByman, Daniel and Christine Fair.
