Topic > Social Media Workplace - 2072

The benefits of social media tools like Facebook and LinkedIn will continue to be debated. Many studies and surveys were conducted in a company that employed more than 100 information workers globally. The study showed that their associates' productivity increased by 46% as a result of using social media tools to communicate and learn new ideas. (Nanji, 2013). Additionally, 42% of employers say social media tools have led to greater collaboration in the workplace. In fact, 34% of agency employees still believe their management underestimates the benefits of social media (Nanji, 2013). In White's (2010) article, he points to a 1.5% decline in employee productivity in a number of global information worker firms whose companies provided access to Facebook. However, with every new tool implemented in the workplace, there are risks, and social media is no different. Companies that restrict social networks today have very few statistics to support their determination. Therefore, today there is no doubt that most organizations use social media as collaboration tools to allow employees to collect data through internal and external communications. However, it all depends on how an organization will deal with these changes and how it will use social media in the workplace which will impact learning and engagement.
