This document lists and explains six important characteristics necessary to demonstrate good professional character. Topics such as the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, the ability to think and act rationally, the ability to keep promises and honor obligations, be responsible for one's own behaviors, the ability to recognize and honor interpersonal boundaries, and the ability to take action promptly and completely self-disclosed facts, circumstances, events, errors or omissions will be discussed, along with how they are relevant to exercising good professional character. Many times in life a person finds themselves in a situation where they must decide the correct way to react to things that happen in their relationships or personal, academic, or professional aspects of life. Acting in good professional character includes the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, the ability to think and act rationally, the ability to keep promises and honor obligations, be responsible for one's behaviors, the ability to recognize and honor interpersonal boundaries and the ability to promptly and fully disclose facts, circumstances, events, errors or omissions, all of which will be discussed in this document (TexasAdministrativeCode). All of these skills require a person to exercise good professional character, and the inability to perform these tasks demonstrates poor professional character. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong The ability to distinguish between right and wrong is something that most people learn through childhood experiences. As children, most people are taught the general idea of ​​what is considered “wrong” by the general public. Examples of these are lying, cheating, stealing, ... middle of paper ... if the teacher became romantically involved, this would cross an interpersonal boundary and would be an example of poor professional character. Recognizing and honoring interpersonal boundaries in the professional aspect is very similar. It would be unprofessional for coworkers to date or have romantic relationships, just as it would be unprofessional for the boss to date one of his employees. To exercise good professional character in academic and/or business settings, all relationships should be kept professional and should not become romantic. The ability to recognize and honor interpersonal boundaries in personal, academic, and professional contexts is important to practicing good professional character (Texas Administrative Code, 2013). The ability to promptly and fully disclose facts, circumstances, events, errors or omissions
