Barnum, a promoter, museum owner, circus and entertainment producer Barnum meets a young boy, "Finn" (Ellis Rubin), son of a poor tailor his real love Charity (Skylar Dunn), daughter of a wealthy client her father works for. In his own way he makes her laugh and receives a slap from her father, but the love between them lasts until adolescence, she goes to boarding school and he is a poor street orphan. Years later, Finn and Charity (Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams) are older, married and have two girls. He tries to get a loan to open a museum of oddities, but starts to fail, then a little person got him the idea to call strange looking people including a bearded lady Letty Lutz (Keala Settle), Tom Thumb (Sean Humphrey) and two black trapeze artists, brother and sister, WD Wheeler (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Anne Wheeler (Zendaya) – to create a show centered around those strange-looking people. With a few adornments of clothes and makeup and opened a circus. Even though the show has been panned by critics, others love it. He has become very rich, but Barnum can't stop looking forward. The film began with a huge and grandiose performance in the circus. The lights were dark in color and only rays passed through them to give us the shadow of “Barnum” to show us the mysterious character and what will happen. He used his body to open the lights. The way they started the movie was imaginable. When the show started the lights changed from dark to very light, bright and very colorful and it was focused on the characters of the show and this shows their importance and "Barnum" kept repeating "This is where you want to be" this also foreshadows his deep desire to realize his dream. The film shifts to when “Barnum” is a young boy and is faced with the costume he dreams of and what he really wants to be, and we see his shadow in the glass. The lights changed throughout the film, for example; in the scene where he used candles to shade the animals on the wall, the lights were off, dark and nothing was illuminated except the shadow of the animal and this technique was used to foreshadow his dream of opening his own circus and lights used to be dark because he is really poor and can't achieve his dreams, but the lights are shifting with every step he is taking towards his dream and his love for “Charity”. The song “A million Dreams” shows us all his dreams for his love and the opening of the circus. In this song, they used a photography technique which is a bird's eye view when the fabrics fall from the stairs and this also symbolizes the loss of his first dream which is that his love leaves. Dark colors are also used when they wrote messages showing their sadness and pain of being a part of each other. In the scene where they were at the train station everything around them was opaque, gloomy and dark and the two characters were illuminated (warm colours); this foreshadows.
