Topic > My interest in geography and business studies to succeed in business

I am currently attending Oakham School in Rutland, where I am studying A level courses in geography, business studies and biology. I am looking to combine both geography and business studies within a degree program that will allow me to further immerse myself in the social and physical processes that influence our rapidly changing world. I grew up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and have closely observed the economic progression of this city. I am intrigued by the entrepreneurial opportunities and growth that the Emirate offers, despite its extraordinary pace of development. Say no to plagiarism. I find it interesting to observe how the UAE has embraced the challenge of the impending slowdown in oil production and has had to refocus its priorities towards diversification, whilst being aware of the impact this will certainly have on the fragile environment. I want to further explore the delicate, ever-changing balance between business, the natural environment and human impact. I am an energetic outdoors person. Sport is very important to me because it provides an important balance between education and physical well-being. I like to take part in activities that stimulate my abilities, both physical and mental. I love rugby and currently represent Oakham School at both 15s and 7s. I have been on rugby tours to France, Wales and the Gulf. I really enjoyed the self-discipline of regular team training and the challenges of maintaining the standard required to deliver first team standards. Outside of school, I immerse myself in numerous sports and particularly appreciate the self-control, tenacity and determination required in triathlon. The opportunity to have a direct impact within the communities and cultures of other countries has always been a key interest of mine. In 2016 I was part of a team that worked to rebuild local community schools that had been destroyed by the Nepal earthquake. I spent a week at Mount Kailish School which had suffered catastrophic damage. It was truly rewarding to see how a seemingly insignificant amount of work had such a positive impact within the community. I also worked as part of a South African game park conservation team, tasked with collecting and entering data on animals in the reserve, as well as tagging and removing poachers' bullets from large male rhinos. It was rewarding to be able to directly understand the environmental impact of poaching and contribute in a small way to efforts to combat the problem. Closer to home, as part of Voluntary Action, I work one day a week in a charity shop based in Oakham. I can't wait to take on the next level of challenges that college has in store for me. I believe I have the skills not only to earn a good degree but to progress on a personal level. This would serve as the foundation for any future success in my business world.
