Every product has a shelf life, but unfortunately this is not the case with plastic. The fact is that our planet cannot digest plastic. Plastic takes 500 to 1000 years to fully degrade due to the presence of complex polymers. According to the survey conducted by NDTV, India generates around 56 lakh tonnes of plastic waste per year. Experts have estimated that India's annual waste generation will increase to 165 million tonnes by 2030. If we don't change our waste practices now, we will soon be buried in our own slime. The main objectives for developing this product are: Reduce the waste area for waste volume reduction Separate plastic waste Maintain a healthy environment by preventing any outbreak of diseases Help waste collectors to collect and separate easily different types of waste Help the environment and help restore its beauty and natural conditions. The main aim of the project is to separate the waste at source into wet, dry and metallic so that the waste is not wasted but its value is understood and can be converted into a source of energy, in a cost-effective manner. For this reason we have designed our own product called SMART DUSTBIN which can be built to work very efficiently. The segregation process begins when the infrared sensor detects the entry of waste onto the conveyor belt, after which the conveyor belt starts moving with the help of two pulleys powered by two DC motors and controlled by a microcontroller. Various sensors are installed to detect different types of waste. The first sensor used in the SMART DUSTBIN is a proximity sensor that helps detect metal waste. This sensor emits electromagnetic waves to detect metal objects in waste. If the sensor can find metal objects in the waste, it automatically changes the direction of the conveyor towards the container that will collect the metals. The second sensor is the humidity sensor used to separate wet waste from the conveyor. This sensor is installed in such a way that it comes into contact with all waste. If there is a spark in the sensor; the microcontroller detects that it is wet waste and changes the direction of the conveyor towards the wet waste container. The remaining waste passes through the capacitive sensor that detects plastic and is programmed to be thrown into the plastic collection container. Procedure Income Model The market potential of this product will be very high as it is not only made for profit but also for the society at large. There are countries like Sweden that have run out of waste and are asking for plastic so they can keep their recycling plants running and therefore our product will play an important role in separating plastic and sending it to other countries thus reducing landfills. Even the metals that are separated can be used as a source of income. As we see, nowadays the dustbins are disorganized because people do not make an effort to see where the waste should be disposed of, also they are not labeled to differentiate it. There is a big waste mixing problem so reuse or recycling of this waste will be difficult and there will be an increase in environmental pollution. So, there are possibilities.
