According to Wikipedia, there are currently around 34 million internet users in Bangladesh and of them 42% are Facebook users, which means that a large chunk of internet users are active on social media. Maintaining brand presence through social media is a new trend in Bangladesh. Currently, only a few multinational giants, telecom companies and local leading businesses have their brand presence in social media like Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, there are some companies that have created a separate department for social media communication for their brands. Many leading international and local companies have not yet incorporated brand communication through social media for their brands, or promotion of their products on social media, not due to monetary issues, but due to inadequate awareness of the benefits of social media for brand communication. But hopefully in the near future more and more companies will begin this new era of marketing and brand communication through social media.
