Annotated BibliographyKhantzian examines both sides of my argument through his solidarity efforts in this article. As the title suggests, many addicts choose substances to mask pain and depression. He also states that many of these drugs such as heroin and cocaine can also cause many mental disorders. As we learned from the book, heroin can cause many physical and mental effects when you try to stop using it. This is also supported by this article. Khantzian says heroin and cocaine are often the drugs of choice because they offer pain relief. Not only pain resulting from an injury but also from psychological trauma, such as the loss of a loved one or post-traumatic stress disorder. The author also reveals the fact that many people have reported that they started taking drugs just to do something. Which can certainly provide insight into the small town events reported in Dream Land. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Many people get bored and start taking drugs simply for something to do. While boredom is certainly not the only cause, it makes up a good majority of the causes. I also found it interesting that heroin became a choice for reasons other than physical pain. Although the book describes cases of previous drugs leading to heroin after quitting, many also use this hard drug to escape emotional pain. Much stigma is associated with mental illness, because observers cannot see physical pain, however, in most cases, this pain can sometimes be more harmful and painful than physical illness. Lakhan, in this article realizes that more often than not, psychiatrists are prescribing drugs for mental disorders and claims that the numbers are alarming. However, it has a much better intervention for such problems, and it is atypical. He suggests that those suffering from problems such as depression and bipolar should not always be treated with drugs, but with balanced, highly nutritious diets. Most psychological conditions occur in the United States more than anywhere else in the world. America has almost 26%, while countries like China have only 4%. He states that there are some supplements that can relieve the symptoms of these disorders and that these methods are less risky than typical medications. However, many doctors do not recommend these alternatives because they would simply lose money. In my research article, I found a lot of information about drug addiction and mental illnesses, however, no alternatives to drugs. This research will help me show how there are other options that don't include taking addictive pills. Nutrition can actually solve many problems, including physical ones. I feel like this information will help me with my research, because I can reveal healthier alternative treatments. Links, et al. examines the stigma of someone dealing with both mental illness and drug addiction. This study revealed that negative stigmas can actually provide positive outcomes in patients. For example, subjects were given negative comments about his addiction, who internalized the strength and proactivity to change these titles. In this experiment, approximately 84 men were studied, all dually diagnosed with some type of mental illness and drug addiction. Each candidate was interviewed on timeseparated, once when he had both addiction and disorder, and again after the addiction had been treated. Many of these individuals interviewed have faced addictions as a result of their mental states, however, some have developed such problems to try to escape many of the harsh side effects that come with these mental disorders. For example, those with often smoke weed because it relieves anxiety symptoms. However, for some, it can actually cause mental illnesses, such as anxiety and/or depression. From this research emerged the idea that stigma stems more from mental illness than from drug addiction. The information contained in this study is extremely significant regarding my research question. It helps explain different types of mental disorders, as well as the experiences of having both a disorder and an addiction at the same time. As previously stated, many people are given addictive drugs, to try to mask the problem at hand. These prescriptions work very similarly to those described in the book. Many are simply given such drugs because of the money involved, when in reality there are better ways to help these people. The surveys and research-based evidence provided in this reading help guide me in determining the answer to my research question.Moore, et. al. study the effects of cannabis consumption on the mental state of the people examined. Numerous other previously conducted studies have helped support this research as well as the claims produced in this article. Among the users surveyed, many revealed that smoking marijuana caused numerous positive and negative effects on their mental states. Many users of this drug report that symptoms of their mental illness, such as sadness and anxiety, disappear completely after smoking it. While other users have claimed that it causes such symptoms as well as paranoia. These conflicting results are found in some way in all studies conducted on these topics. However, one thing is certain: first-time smokers generally experience more anxiety, as this fades from religious use. Many scholars and doctors maintain that marijuana is harmless and non-addictive, however this study reveals that this is not always the case. Individuals react differently and those with mental illnesses should certainly be cautious. I believe these studies are extremely important in my research. This is true for many reasons. Many doctors and psychiatrists actually prescribe marijuana to replace current medications. Although they claim that marijuana is not addictive, many people become addicted to it and face difficulties when quitting. I believe these examinations reveal several important realizations. A major one is that mental illnesses cause both the need for medications and the medications that cause those problems. Some people who had never smoked before developed mental illnesses. Just as many consumers start smoking or using recreational drugs or even prescription medications to alleviate mental illnesses. Such cases are very alarming, especially in a world that promotes and speaks highly of medical marijuana. While many cases have revealed that this is a better alternative, this is not always the case. The results of this study are quite interesting. The authors not only study mental illnesses, but also drug addiction and non-adherence to medications, with the added aspects of violence. It has been found that individuals with mental illnesses can become extremely violent when they are addicted to substances or when they do not take the medications recommended to treat their mental disorders..
