Volunteering rewards both internally and externally. Intrinsic rewards in the form of direct activity and/or work outcome while extrinsic activity helps improve human capital, social network or gain social approval. It provides internal and external motivation. Internally, volunteers benefit from the intrinsic pleasure of the work and care about the utility of the recipient while the act of helping others gives them satisfaction. Externally, it helps to build social networks and a better understanding of work with a higher age group. As part of my help to the society, I joined the NGO "AgeAction" to provide digital skills to the elderly. This program is funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, Irish Government. The government's national digital strategy aims to improve the digital skills of its citizens through free training sessions provided by NGOs. For AgeAction, the age of an adult for this program is above 55 years and is open to all segments such as farming communities, small business owners, unemployed, differently abled and disadvantaged groups. Educating seniors in internet-enabled skills has rewarded me with informal learning outside the classroom. Assisting people from disadvantaged groups, in terms of age, and more prone to social isolation has strengthened the importance of communication, regardless of the social or professional environment. I have always believed in continuous learning, but managing this belief during the real life scenario of Masters seemed to be challenging with intense reading/writing work and also after 10 years of leaving formal education. The agility among the students was helpful and encouraged me to learn new things with interest and managed to avoid burnout. Learning something meaningful at any age is no longer a dilemma but an ongoing activity with a renewed perspective. The benefits of volunteer experiences are based on the prior learning and skills that the individual volunteer shares with an organization. In addition to meeting people from different walks of life, my first training course at AgeAction helped me rebuild my perspective on what to do and what not to do during volunteer classes and taught me how to manage seniors' expectations regarding to learning contents. In recent years, successful companies have introduced soft skills such as interpersonal communication, team building, listening, integrity, etc. among the fundamental requirements as fundamental for business success. Building a social network for career preparation is one of the goals. Sharing my knowledge throughout the course complemented my experience by improving my self-confidence, ability to engage in face-to-face and group discussions, and improved language skills. According to my previous experience in the sector, all these features of informal education are part of the main skills sought by any employer. My awareness of effectively managing people and their expectations with different backgrounds was a surprise to me.
