There are many stakeholders interested in this issue, mainly due to its catastrophic effects on the lives of victims of human trafficking. The United States (US) government, state and local governments, foreign governments, private and non-profit organizations, and ordinary citizens are the entities targeted for this research. This inclusion is necessary because human trafficking occurs globally and a government response is needed to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. Private and non-profit organizations are able to provide victims and their families with relief services that will aid in recovery and further assistance. The public should be informed about the dangers of human trafficking, as too often victims are unaware of the potential dangers surrounding them. The values upheld by these organizations are those of human dignity, respect and a commitment to doing what is right. Human trafficking should not exist in the world at all, and the fact that its emergence continues to make headlines is a detriment to our society. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay In 2013, at the opening of a new shelter for victims of human trafficking, former St. Paul Minnesota Mayor Chris Coleman said the following: “this is our response, as a community , to say that we will not stop and let this happen” (Cohen, 2013). While the effort to eradicate human trafficking globally is in the hands of multiple individuals in multiple countries, this sentiment behind Mayor Coleman's remarks echoes what everyone in the movement hopes to achieve. That is, we as individuals will not allow such brutal and savage crimes to continue to resonate in our communities. Those working against this effort are part of the problem. There may be some differences, however, between the goals of government and those of nonprofit organizations. The government, while respectful of victims, would be more interested in the security and intelligence aspects of ending human trafficking. Private and non-profit organizations, on the other hand, would be more conscious about helping victims on a personal level and ensuring they are caught. In this sense, the goals of the public are somewhat different, but the goal of eradicating human trafficking is a consensus shared by all stakeholders. As previously mentioned, research for this project will be geared toward government agencies (e.g., FBI, CIA, DHS), state and local governments, foreign governments, private and non-profit organizations, and the general public. This is because every entity has a vested interest in eradicating such a monstrous institution. All audiences would agree that human life and respect are values and interests at the forefront of this mission.
