Topic > Study trip reflection: Visiting Bordeaux

Capital of the New Aquitaine region and sixth largest city in France, Bordeaux has attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists thanks to its high-quality wine, strong cultural atmosphere and heritage historical scenarios every year. Thanks to the general support of CUHK Chung Chi College, our group, consisting of 19 students and 2 professors, was able to visit Bordeaux and discover the extraordinary wine, history and lifestyle of Bordeaux. In Bordeaux we were surprised to find many special services for wine production in every corner. Red wines are produced using the skins and residues of the grapes, while white wines do not have them, each individual type of wine is produced differently, the host explained. This fundamental philosophy has been imbibed and executed by every Bordeaux wine production manager and motivates his employees to work with great care. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, the main reason for Bordeaux's great success in wine has always been its rigorous production procedures and hard-working attitude. The first impressive lesson I learned from making Bordeaux wine is: prestige is not the property of nobility, it is achieved with long-term practice and a rigorous attitude towards perfection. However, most businesses around the world, including some large ones, have confused the meaning of success with the reward of revenue. Typically, Asian entrepreneurs set a large amount of requirements and goals for high profits, which barely increases employee efficiency effectively. Bordeaux, as far as I'm concerned, embodies in the company culture the careful consideration for the excellence of quality wine and takes it as one of the central thoughts of the organization, which turns out to be a great management philosophy. In fact, as I have always believed, the best business practice is to eliminate the sense of pure profit and bring the team together with one goal in both physical and mental state. Historical Places and Cultural Repositories During our visit, we are also pleased to visit the historical places and learn about their historical and cultural significance. For example, Roquetaillade Castle was a military castle for defense against invasions. Built on a wide prairie, the castle cuts the passage to the inner continent, protecting French citizens and nobility in ancient times. What struck me a lot is their engineering vision of the architectural structure. The roof of the castle hall adopts a two-way rope structure, and the drawbridge rigidly connects the main tower. This way the castle is carefully protected because enemies cannot enter the castle when the suspension bridge is pulled up. From my engineering aptitude (since I am an engineering student), the designer of Roquetaillade Castle clearly followed the principles of the barrel effect and paid great attention to the weakest point: the drawbridge. Furthermore, compared to China, we also understood that the ancient French people always cared about the preservation of cultural heritage, even if they suffered the damage of the French Revolution. Over the past few hundred years, the French have made almost no changes to their historic buildings and relics, leaving us with an authentic place to visit and discover. Open culture and environment.
